Because sometimes measured with a 500-volt Megohmmeter, the insulation value of the test product has a high resistance value, and the insulation resistance value measured with a 2500-volt megohmmeter is so low that it cannot be used. Therefore, the insulation resistance measured with different voltage megohmmeters is different. For example, when a defective test piece is used to measure the insulation resistance of a test piece using a megohmmeter of different levels at the same ambient temperature, the test results are shown in Table 1.

It can be seen from Table 1 that the insulation resistance value of the test object decreases as the megohm voltage used increases. This situation can easily cause misunderstandings by electrical maintenance personnel. For this reason, for the test subject with doubtful insulation resistance, a megohmmeter with a correspondingly high output voltage is particularly applied to high-voltage electrical equipment to facilitate the exposure of insulation defects.

In order to solve the problem of lower output voltage of digital megohmmeter, we can use two 1000V or 500V megohmmeters in series. According to the principle of series voltage superposition, using two 1000-volt and 500-volt megohmmeters in series, a 2,500-volt DC voltage can be obtained on the test object. But when using it, you should pay attention to two points:

(1) The ground potential of the first megohmmeter has been raised. Therefore, the megohmmeter housing should be insulated from the ground. Operators should wear gloves and other safety measures.

(2) The megohmmeters used in series are produced by the same manufacturer as much as possible, and the characteristics are generally the same.
