Analysis of Development Trends and Precautions for Ship Cabin Coatings

Business Club November 22 hearing 80% of the Earth’s area is made up of oceans, and the salt in the ocean makes the oceans become a harsh environment for corrosion. Ships are in the marine environment for a long time and the corrosion will inevitably be severe. They are the main anti-corrosion measures for ships. Marine paints are mainly composed of marine anti-corrosion and anti-fouling paints. They also include heavy-duty paints for marine coatings and marine engineering facilities. Among them, marine paints are divided into bottom anti-corrosion, anti-fouling paint, hull paint, deck paint, and Cabin paint and damping noise and other special coatings. Due to the special nature of the cabin environment, people not only pay attention to the corrosion resistance of cabin coatings, but also pay special attention to the problem of cabin coating's toxicity. The corrosion resistance of coating coatings affects the service time and service performance of vessels, especially ships, and The toxicity of paint coating is directly related to the crew's personal health and safety. Therefore, the direction of cabin coatings in the future should be: light color, high solids content, and no solvent.

1. Light-colored cabin coating cabin coatings are currently mainly epoxy asphalt and epoxy coatings. Most of them are dark red and dark except for water tank paints. Although the anti-corrosion performance can meet the requirements, due to the dark color coating in the lighting The cabins with limited conditions are hard to find their defects and the conditions after use. Now some of the most demanding cabins have begun to use light-colored paint.

2. High Solids and Solvent-Free Coatings Due to the narrowness of the nacelle cabin and the difficulty of air circulation, there is a higher requirement for the volatile content and toxicity of organic solvents in coatings. High-solids coatings should theoretically completely replace the currently used solvent types. Paint, and gradually approach the direction of solvent-free paint. In addition to using two-component low-viscosity resins, solvent-free coatings also require active or non-reactive diluents. As a result, the coating film contains small-molecule structures that affect the performance of the coating. This is where research and improvement are currently required. In addition, the viscosity of solvent-free paints is large at present, and special spray equipments are used during construction. Usually, it is not suitable to brush by hand. Although solvent-free coatings are inferior in performance to solvent-based coatings, because they do not contain the environmental features of organic solvents, the use of such coatings should be vigorously promoted.

3, modified epoxy coatings in a variety of coatings, epoxy resin has outstanding adhesion and corrosion resistance, but also by changing the color filler and curing agent and other means, can be made of a wide variety of coatings with different properties , is the world's most widely used and most important type of anti-corrosion coating. In the production of resin for coating in China, the epoxy resin has the most varieties and the most stable performance. Epoxy resins are powdered under ultraviolet light, so epoxy paints are generally not used as outdoor topcoats, but the rate of powdering is very slow. If you do not consider the appearance, from the perspective of protecting the substrate, you can still Use, especially alicyclic epoxy resins have better weatherability. In addition, the pure epoxy resin is brittle, and generally the toughening agent is added to the epoxy. After about one year of use, the toughening agent volatilizes, the film brittleness increases dramatically, and the peeling and other ills occur under mechanical impact. Therefore, At present, epoxy resin is generally modified with a flexible resin, which is called modified epoxy resin and modified epoxy coating. At present, the use of modified epoxy coatings as a general antirust paint for ships is the focus of research.

4. The successful development of waterborne coating water-dispersible resins has given new opportunities and prospects to the coating industry, enabling coating production to develop from solvent-dependent, natural resins to solvent-free and waterborne coatings. Among them, the market share of water-based paint is the largest, and the development speed is also the fastest. The waterborne living-room epoxy paint has the characteristics of environmental protection and easy recoating as the top coat, and it is in accord with the requirements of the semi-gloss and matt of the living room and attracts people's attention. However, in addition to water-based inorganic zinc-rich primer, other water-based anti-rust paint is affected by a series of flash rust, moisture evaporation, adhesion, etc., and it is difficult to use on ships in the short term. In addition, with the advent of high-performance aqueous resins such as two-component waterborne polyurethanes and epoxy resins, and high-chloroethylene and modified alkyd emulsions, research and use of water-based cabin coatings has become an inevitable and hot topic.

In addition, with the ever-increasing renewal of coating technology and the appearance of new coating equipment and high-performance coatings, modern ship coating workers must not only master the basic knowledge of coating theory, but also master the operation and coating of various coating equipment. The testing technology of the loading process can adapt to the development needs of the ship painting. However, the overall quality of ship-painting workers in most shipbuilding companies is still quite difficult to reach this level. Training a large number of qualified painters is a problem that needs to be solved urgently in the ship painting industry. Because the quality of ship painting workers directly affects the quality of ship painting.

In recent years, with the continuous enhancement of environmental awareness and the improvement of environmental protection regulations, major reforms in the marine coatings industry have been triggered. The serious environmental pollution caused by the use of paints and the serious harm to human health, it is imperative for the transformation of the marine paint industry to the “green industry”.
