As the largest chemical producer in Europe, Germany has the fastest growth in its chemical production, with a year-on-year increase of 18.9% in the first 10 months of 2010. Poland and Belgium were the two countries that first returned to the pre-crisis level of production, but as a whole, their chemical industry increased only 5.9%. According to the report of the European Chemical Industry Committee, with regard to the EU as a whole, inorganics, polymers and petrochemicals have experienced the strongest growth, while production of consumer and specialty chemicals has recovered at a moderate pace.
CEFIC: EU chemical industry is still recovering
The European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) said on January 5 that EU chemical production is still in the process of recovery. In October last year, the EU’s chemical production increased by 5.5% year-on-year, and the chemical production in the first 10 months of last year increased by 11.3% compared with the same period of 2009. Since December 2008, EU chemical production has grown steadily with an average monthly increase of 0.7%.
