Core Tip: The following article introduces the effective application of emulsifiers in weaned piglets. Because of the low feed intake, newborn piglets have insufficient nutrient intake, especially energy intake, which affects the healthy growth of piglets. In order to improve the performance of piglets, it is recommended to add fat to the feed to increase the energy concentration of the feed. However, since lactating piglets are not able to release the emulsifier that digests fat, it limits the application of fat in actual production. To this end, animal husbandry experts in the United States have studied the use of chemical emulsifiers in piglet feed. The test used 17-21 day old weaned pigs whose feed consisted of corn, bean cake, whey powder, skimmed milk powder, antibiotics, fat and other nutrients. Soybean oil, coconut oil, butter and lard were used as the four fat sources to be added to the weaned pig diet at 10%. The emulsifiers were lecithin and cephalin, which were added in 10% and 30% of fat. %. The results showed that the dry matter, total energy and fat digestibility of soybean oil and coconut oil feed were higher than that of butter and lard. This is mainly due to the difference in the length of various fat carbon chains and the degree of unsaturation of fatty acids, and the amount of fat as a nitrogen source is not much different. When lecithin and cephalin were added to the diet containing butter (added 10% of the amount of butter), the digestibility of fat in the diet increased from 80.9% to 88.4% and 83.9%, respectively. Adding an emulsifier to a diet containing lard reduces the digestibility of fat. During the 35-day lactation period, the addition of soybean oil and the tallow group did not increase the weight gain of the piglets, but the feed utilization rate was significantly higher than that of the control group without fat.
