U.S. and Canada consumed 2 million tons of aluminum extrusion material in 2005

The Aluminum Extrusion Association (AEC) and the American Aluminum Association (AA) recently jointly released statistics on aluminum extrusions consumption in North America in 2005. The data shows that in 2005, the consumption of aluminum extrusions in the United States and Canada was 2 million tons. 1.9 million tons in 2004 increased by 5.7%, of which the construction industry was the largest consumer of aluminum extrusions and accounted for 83% of the total consumption of aluminum extrusions, which was an increase of 4.4% year-on-year. In the industry, the consumption of aluminum extrusions for doors and windows accounted for 45%, up 3.7% year-on-year, and the consumption of curtain wall and other extruded materials also increased year-on-year. The second largest consumption area of ​​extruded wood is the transportation industry. In 2005, the consumption of aluminum extrusions in this area was 1.31 billion pounds, accounting for 39.6% of the total consumption. Among them, 41% was used for passenger cars and trucks, and 32% was used for Trailer and so on. The data also showed that in 2005, the imports of aluminum extrusions from the United States and Canada increased significantly by 22.3% to 160,000 tons, while the domestic output of aluminum extrusions, after subtracting exports, was 1.84 million tons, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year.
