63 projects such as tungsten and molybdenum metallurgy ammonia pollution control won the 2016 Environmental Protection Technology Award

The list of projects for the 2016 Environmental Protection Science and Technology Awards newly announced by the Ministry of Environmental Protection shows that 63 projects such as "Control Technology and Application of Ammonia Contamination in Tungsten and Molybdenum Metallurgy" won the 2016 Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award.

The whole process control technology and application demonstration of tungsten and molybdenum metallurgy ammonia pollution won the first prize of environmental protection science and technology this year. The head of the project, Dr. Lin Xiao of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told reporters on the 16th that China’s tungsten and molybdenum reserves are the largest in the world. However, at the present time, the tungsten-molybdenum smelting enterprises adopt a high-cost method of environmental protection at the terminal. Therefore, it is necessary to study pollution control to reduce related costs. Heavy metal anions such as tungsten and molybdenum combined with heavy metals such as arsenic and lead, and heavy metals such as heavy metal ammonium salts, pose a serious challenge to traditional end-of-pipe treatment technologies. Pollution control needs to be upgraded to the entire process. According to the announcement, according to the "Environmental Protection Science and Technology Incentive Measures", after being recommended by various localities and departments and evaluated by experts, the Environmental Protection Science and Technology Awards Committee approved 63 projects won the 2016 Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award, including 6 first prizes. There are 26 second prizes, 30 third prizes, and 1 popular science prize.

Lin Xiao believes that the key to pollution control in the entire process of tungsten and molybdenum metallurgy lies in the construction of a new clean production process that integrates resource extraction and pollution control, and separates and recycles tungsten and molybdenum, ammonia, and other pollutants and waste water. The project realized the reduction of sources of ammonia wastewater at a low concentration and simultaneous treatment of wastewater and waste gas. The whole process of water consumption is expected to be reduced by 26%, ammonia consumption is reduced by 50%, energy consumption is reduced by 60%, environmental treatment costs are reduced, and economic benefits are improved.

The data shows that the total amount of tungsten proved in the world is only 2.9 million tons. China's tungsten reserves are abundant, accounting for about 60% of the world's proven reserves of tungsten mineral resources, ranking first in the world. China’s molybdenum production ranks first in the world, accounting for 37.4% of global production in 2010.

The Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award is an important award in China's environmental protection scientific research field. It aims to fully mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of environmental science and technology workers, accelerate the progress of environmental science and technology, and promote the development of environmental protection.
