Recently, Ma Yanwei's research group of the Superconductivity and Energy New Materials Research Division of the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences adopted a multi-stage secondary graphene composite electrode and an ionic liquid gel polymer electrolyte to develop a high-energy-density flexible solid superstate with a 3.5V voltage window for the first time. Capacitors. Researchers successfully fabricated a flexible solid-state supercapacitor with a wide voltage window by regulating the microstructure of the electrode and introducing an ionic liquid gel electrolyte, effectively increasing the energy density of the device. This research provides an effective strategy for improving the energy density of flexible solid supercapacitors in the future.

The multi-stage graphene composite electrode used in this study consists of graphene and carbonized polyaniline nanowires. This composite electrode material not only realizes multi-dimensional composites of one-dimensional nanomaterials and two-dimensional nanomaterials, but also has abundant nanometers. The pore structure is conducive to the diffusion and storage of large-sized ionic liquid electrolyte ions inside the material. In addition, the composite material also has a large specific surface area of ​​2416 m2/g and an excellent conductivity of 7246 S/m, and is particularly suitable as an electrode material for supercapacitors of organic systems. The flexible solid supercapacitor assembled based on the electrode material and the ionic liquid gel electrolyte film exhibits high specific capacitance (180 F/g) and good rate performance, as well as excellent energy density (75 Wh/kg). After 10,000 cycles of charge and discharge, the capacity can still be maintained above 85%. In addition, by in-situ testing of the capacitor performance under repeated bending conditions, it was found that the flexible solid state supercapacitor exhibited good bending resistance performance, and the capacity can still be maintained at 88% after continuous bending 1000 times. This shows that the flexible solid super capacitor not only has good electrochemical performance but also exhibits excellent mechanical bending resistance.

The research was done by the Institute of Electrical Engineering and the cooperation of Professor Ge Xingbo from Southwest Petroleum University. The relevant research results were published in the international journal Adv. Funct. Mater (2017, DOI: 10.1002/adfm.201704463).
